what are noisenights?

noisenights are our vision for the future of classical music: crowdfunded gigs taking world-leading musicians to iconic independent venues.

At the centre of every noisenight is a one-hour classical set. We platform international soloists and ensembles while also giving opportunities to outstanding new artists. All noisenights take place in gig venues where you get to experience classical music up close.

Live music needs your backing more than ever. Backing a noisenight means getting tickets to hear the world's best performers in grassroots venues and being part of a community working for a positive future for live music. Putting it simply, you giving your backing will make this gig happen and secure you a ticket.

After a noisenight reaches its funding target, we'll e-mail all backers to confirm it and a small amount of extra tickets will be made available. Tickets are released in four stages, which increase in price the closer to the event they're purchased. Book early to get the best price.

Please note that due to the venue's license, this noisenight is strictly 14+ (all under 18s must be accompanied by an adult).

the venue:

Housed in an old, disused petrol station adjoined to a fancy dress shop, Hyde Park Book Club started life as a café in 2015 before transforming into a live music and arts space across two floors, serving food and drink and selling books and records.

Since opening it has quickly become the heart of Leeds’ creative arts scene. The unique and bohemian venue provides a platform for artists, musicians, writers, foodies and is recognised for showcasing highly-regarded talent.

the music:

Her Ensemble, directed by Ellie Consta, will present their show ‘Forgotten in History’. Merging aspects from classical and pop scenes, the free-form group will perform music written by women spanning the past 2000 years.

Her Ensemble’s programme is a response to the discovery that in 2019, just 3.6% of the classical music pieces performed worldwide were written by women. It's just not true that “there haven’t been that many women composers” - the ensemble will present an eclectic mix of music spanning from Hildegard von Bingen (c1098-1179, abbess, writer, composer, and philosopher) to the brand new folk-inspired Clan from Joanna Borrett.

her ensemble:

Her Ensemble were founded to make a positive impact on the gender gap in the classical music industry. They shine a light on female composers from the past, alongside working with current artists who share their ethos. Deriving from the European Union Youth Orchestra, the free-form group brings together some of the UK's most in-demand musicians.

Since forming in November 2020, the ensemble have featured on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio London, Scala Radio, as well as by The Strad and Help Musicians UK. Her Ensemble have also collaborated with artists such as Pixie Lott, Caitlyn Scarlett and LITANY, released their debut single with award-winning film composer Alexandra Hamilton-Ayres, and recorded and produced music for feature films including AVAWAVES, FINITE documentary and Melt The Fly for BBC Scotland.

Her Ensemble believe that all music is for everyone to enjoy, however currently the demographic for classical music skews towards an older white audience, with the majority of concert programmes featuring solely former white male composers. The group hopes to change this by reimagining the context for 'classical' music and doing away with rigid rules and traditions.

Performances have a distinctly relaxed atmosphere with musicians interacting with the audience, adding context and history to each work performed and strict dress codes have been replaced with expectation-defying suits (usually...sometimes we like changing it up too).
