IDRÎSÎ ENSEMBLE
Idrîsî Ensemble explore the interweaving of science and the sacred through geometry, arithmetic, and symbolism in a programme of medieval trios and quartets, creating “a serene, hypnotic and reverent soundscape that feels like a voyage through sonic time.”
Medieval writers often spoke of music in three interlocking dimensions: musica mundana (cosmic order), musica humana (the harmony of the human being - body and soul), and musica instrumentalis (the audible music of voices and instruments). Music was not merely something we make; it was also something we are inside of.
The cosmos has order; the human has order; sounding music is a mirror and a training ground for both. To sing or play was therefore not only to perform, but to rehearse a way of being in tune - with oneself, with others, and with the world. For this performance, Idrîsî Ensemble director Thomas Fournil leads a group of six singers to explore the concepts of trivium and quadrivium.

Standing at the southeast corner of Cathedral Square, behind the park area, Glasgow Evangelical Church was built between 1878-1880 by designer John Honeyman, a soon-to-be partner of Charles Rennie Macintosh.
In contrast to the nearby Medieval Gothic of the Cathedral and the red sandstone Gothic Revival Barony Church, Glasgow Evangelical Church was built in an Italianate baroque style. The interior, with fine stained glass and galleries on three sides, retains the atmosphere of a traditional Protestant preaching house, with a rare example of a complete original Foster & Andrews 1887 pipe organ located behind the pulpit.
