ana carla maza
Ana Carla Maza is the new voice of Cuba – an emblem of the excellence and innovation of the emerging Cuban generation. With her unique blend of cello virtuosity, soulful vocals, and magnetic stage presence, she has become one of the most prominent Cuban singer-composers on the international scene.
This rare solo show comes off the back of her latest album Caribe – a bold, colourful celebration of Latin and Caribbean music. Inspired by the legendary Afro-Cuban jam sessions known as descargas, Caribe blends vibrant Caribbean rumbas, emotive Argentine tangos, Brazilian bossa-jazz and samba, and more.
Rooted in her Cuban heritage, the album earned international acclaim, winning the Transglobal World Music Chart award for Best Album of North & Central America & the Caribbean and received a nomination for Les Victoires du Jazz.
BAND ON THE WALL
Band on the Wall is a multi-award-winning non-profit live music venue and bar, based in a former cinema space. The venue's had a licence for song and dance since 1803, making it the oldest live music space in Manchester.
The name harks back to the building’s days as The George and Dragon pub in the early 20th Century. Regulars would affectionately refer to the ‘Band on the Wall’ as the place where house musicians quite literally played on a stage halfway up the back wall to make room in the busy pub.
