New Zealand-born conductor Gemma New makes her BBC Proms debut with a colourful programme of 20th- and 21st-century orchestral pieces. The charm of Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2 – a birthday gift for the composer’s talented teenage son – meets the dazzling dances of Stravinsky’s ballet The Firebird.

This performance is part of the BBC Proms, the world’s largest classical music festival. Taking place over eight weeks, the festival features performances every day until 9 September - most of which take place at The Royal Albert Hall, in South Kensington.

The festival’s ethos is to provide high-quality and inexpensive concerts. For every concert, you can pick up tickets on-the-day for £8. They’re released at 10.30am for the performance that evening. Find out more about Promming here.
