Classical music festival Up Close and Musical returns to Clerkenwell’s Fidelio Cafe. Founded in 2020 by violist Shiry Rashkovsky, Up Close and Musical demystifies the world of classical music through boundary-defying performances in which world-renowned artists share their music and stories of their musical lives in an intimate setting.

This event revolves around this year’s much anticipated musical film, Chevalier, which charts the story of the rise of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, a French-Caribbean violinist, composer and champion fencer, whose tenacity in the face of racism and tenuous connections with the French elite sent him down a groundbreaking path.

Join Artistic Director Shiry Rashkovsky as she discovers just what went into the making of the classical blockbuster, in discussion with violinist Ronald Long, who worked behind the scenes teaching movie star Kelvin Harrison Jr. to play the violin. The night features a Q&A, a special performance of Chevalier’s Symphonie Concertante for Two Violins, followed by a screening of the movie.
